Private Land Archery Hunts in Arizona
Now you can hunt the giant Coues deer of the San Pedro River with Coues Outfitters!
Opportunities to hunt private land in Arizona can be difficult to find; finding one that has been hunted very little in the last decade is even tougher. Coues Outfitters has partnered with the HL Bar Ranch, a landowner in Southern Arizona to offer a truly unique Coues experience.
As you can see in the pictures, the genetics and antler growth potential are second to none in this area. If you have been dreaming of a Pope and Young Coues deer taken in Arizona, this is the hunt for you. Depending on buck activity, hunts can be spot and stalk or from tree stands and ground blinds.
The Ranch is undergoing millions of dollars of forest restoration, removing invasive species thus providing a highly huntable landscape. The agriculture operations on the ranch are designed to benefit wildlife and thus provide a habitat rich in trophy game. This one of kind privately-owned landscape restricts access to the public and therefore provides select privileged clients a world class hunting opportunity.
The deer activity is monitored in continuity within ranch operations in order to place the client in key locations for an opportunity that would not be possible on public land with a lifetime of scouting information.
On top of the incredible hunting, the landowner has invested heavily in their ranch to make it warm and welcoming for your hunting party. There won't be much "roughing it" with this set up and a cook will be on hand to cater all your meals!
The Coues deer rut tends to peak in January in Southern Arizona, so there should be plenty of action throughout the day. January usually offers great weather in these parts, too. You might even get to hunt a “winter” day that requires a t-shirt and sunscreen!
This hunt sets up perfectly for hunters of all experience levels. Contact us today for more information, as space is very limited to ensure a great hunting experience on this special property for many years to come.
Add a Javelina: If you would like to add a javelina hunt, be sure to let us know. Archery javelina is open this time of year, too. But unlike the archery deer tags (which can be purchased over the counter), you will need to submit an application in early October to draw a javelina tag.
More about the HL Bar Ranch:
The HL BAR is a cattle ranch located in southeastern Arizona and encompasses several miles of the San Pedro River. It has been family owned since 1898 and has been managed to provide critical habitat for a variety of wildlife. Southern Arizona is known for world class Coues deer. While this game species is primarily hunted in the arid sky islands of Arizona, antler growth can vary drastically from year to year in the mountains since rainfall provides the needed protein for optimal growth. Less than 1% of Arizona is riparian and even a smaller fraction of this property class is found within prime Coues habitat. The San Pedro River therefore provides a one of kind hunting opportunity in that it has year-round water and forage sources; enabling optimal antler growth and genetics.
The San Pedro River however is not homogenous. In the late 1800s there was a large earthquake that made the large majority of river flow underground. The 32.4 mile stretch of middle San Pedro River only contained 3.3 miles of surface water in its 2017 Survey (Nature Conservancy Wet Dry Mapping). This water is found on the HL Bar! This means that the highest concentration of Coues with trophy genetics are on a private ranch that restricts access to the public.
Furthermore, the majority of San Pedro River is overgrown with invasive brush that makes it impossible to walk let alone see your trophy. This private ranch undergoes extensive riparian forest restoration, removing evasive brush in order to maintain a highly huntable landscape. The deer activity is also monitored contiguous within ranch operations in order to place the client in key locations for an opportunity that would not be possible on public land with a lifetime of scouting information.
In essence, this one of kind ranch combines the best trophy Coues habitat on a private landscape with comfortable accommodations for select clientele. Why make exhausting treks through steep mountain terrain for a slim possibility to see a trophy deer at unobtainable distances when the HL Bar affords you a catered two-story ranch house with landscapes that bring the Grey Ghost of a lifetime in front of your blind.
